A’ Famosa is a Portuguese fortress which marks Portuguese occupation hundreds of years ago. According to history, the British had almost destroyed the whole complex when Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in 1808. He was able to stop the destruction, but unfortunately what was left until today is nothing more than a getaway called ‘Porta de Santiago’.
A Famosa Fort is a definite must-visit when in Melaka if you are interested in visiting historical sites. The building was well preserved and it is good for taking instagrammable photos.
This place can only be visited about 30 minutes as it is located at the foot of St Pual’ Hill at Jalan Parameswara, Bandar Hilir, 78000 Melaka.
